About EMDR
Trauma comes in many guises and the consequences can rule our lives for many years. However, there is hope, and therapy can help to bring resolution. I use a trauma informed approach in all my work and am mindful of the impact on body, mind and spirit.
One particularly effective model for working with trauma is EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a powerful trauma treatment recommended by NICE Guidelines. Developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in the 1980’s, much research has been conducted over the intervening years and shows EMDR to be effective with a wide range of issues.
Much more is understood now about how the brain works and how our mind processes traumatic events. We know that there are occasions when the original incident continues to feel as though it is still happening even though it was a long time ago. Or the trauma locked away can be triggered by many seemingly unrelated things or people, causing a great deal of discomfort.
See the links on the resources page for how EMDR can be useful to help address any unprocessed material that haunts you.
“The goal of EMDR treatment is to rapidly metabolise the dysfunctional residue from the past and transform it into something useful” – Francine Shapiro
