Models of Therapy
The foundation provided by Person Centred Counselling of acceptance, unconditional positive regard and empathy form the basis from which a relationship of trust has the best chance of developing.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy was developed to address issues in a practical way such as looking at ways to change thoughts and behaviours in order to better control disturbing emotional reactions or experiences. This can be particularly useful for depression and anxiety.
A trauma informed approach allows for an individual to be heard and seen, alongside what has happened to them. Understanding how your past impacts on your present, in thought, behaviour, emotion, and body sensation, allows a separation from the ‘there and then’ and the ‘here and now’.
“It is hard to change and grow until someone has really seen where we are now” – Heinz Kohut
